Seminar on discovery of radioactive sources and nuclear security conducted in Armenia (VIDEO)
The INTERPOL General Secretariat and Interpol National Central Bureau in Armenia conducted a seminar on discovery of radioactive sources and nuclear security on May 6 to 7.
Speakers were Senior Officer at the Radioactive and Nuclear Safety subdivision of the INTERPOL General Secretariat Radek Hlawachka, Nuclear Safety Expert at the US Department of Energy Liz Dalas and representative of the US Embassy's Export Control and Related Border Security Program Armen Tovmasyan.
Employees of a number of police departments, as well as the State Revenue Committee, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Security Service, the State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee and the RA Expert Center SNCO participated in it.
The aim of the event was to create a platform for international cooperation in the field of nuclear safety within Interpol.
Interpol's role in the issue of radioactive and nuclear safety in the border checkpoints of Armenia, their disclosure, security, as well as expansion of cooperation were discussed.
Lectures on Border Security Measures in Armenia, Capabilities on Nuclear Safety and Disclosure in Armenia's Border Checkpoints, Current Challenges and Involvement of Armenian Law Enforcement Officers in Nuclear Safety Activities were Presented.
Within the framework of the event, a group of representatives of the Armenian and US interested parties and Interpol visited Bavra border checkpoint to get acquainted and discuss organizational details on the spot for the planned operational training.
The seminar was concluded with an agreement to conduct an operational training for the detection of radioactive sources and nuclear safety in Armenia this year.
