Police of the Republic of Armenia host reception for the delegation led by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights (VIDEO and PHOTOS)

On Thursday October 9, 2014, Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan received Nils Muižnieks, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Council officers accompanying him.
Welcoming the guests, Vladimir Gasparyan provided information on the measures taken by Police leadership to improve the coordination of the measures aimed to combat domestic violence and protect women's and juveniles' rights in our country. A set of documents and video files relating to the recent activity of Armenian Police in this sphere were provided to the Delegation members.
Highlighting the importance of measures on domestic violence prevention, Vladimir Gasparyan mentioned that the establishment of the relevant Police Department was aimed to improve the efficiency of fight against family violence. In this regard, the positive results of this structural change are already obvious.
In response to the guests' question regarding the level of professional readiness of police officers, the Police Chief mentioned that regular practical courses are held in this sphere, and not only, besides, a professional course on European partnership is nowadays included in the Police Academy curriculum.
Full and exhaustive answers were provided to all the questions posed by the guests which were particularly related to women's service at the Armenian Police, protection of their rights, prospects of their professional and service promotion.
The guests spoke about some certain cases of domestic violence in our republic and Vladimir Gasparyan gave an assurance that those cases will be thoroughly studied and necessary measures will be taken to solve them.
The meeting agenda also included other issues of mutual interest.
