The General department of state protection turns 60
On October 29 a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 60-th anniversary of the General department of State protection, took place.
The event commenced with the opening ceremony of the khachkar-memorial immortalizing the memory of the servicemen of the General department of state protection, who perished while defending the Republic’s frontiers or carrying out their official duties. The memorial was consecrated by the leader of Kotayk Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church, archbishop Ter Arakel Karamyan.
The police chief Vladimir Gasparyan, relatives and colleagues of the perished servicemen placed flowers at the memorial.
Congratulating on the 60-th anniversary of the General department of State Protection, the police chief made a special emphasize on the important symbol of the day: eternal is the memory of those who consecrated our land at the cost of their blood. «We should not only build memorials but as well as pay a tribute to the memory of the perished, thus bringing up our generations», - the police chief emphasized. And during the opening of the renovated building of the General department of State protection the honor of cutting the ribbon was given to the mother of one of the perished police officers.
The police chief Vladimir Gasparyan went round the territory of the Department, visited the shooting ground, familiarized himself with the technics, watched the demonstrative training of the servicemen of the General department of State protection. The police chief expressed his satisfaction with the combat readiness and implemented work.
Afterwards, a solemn sitting took place during which Roman Mkrtumyan, the head of the General department of State protection, and a number of servicemen were awarded according to the orders of the police chief. A group of servicemen were awarded by Levon Yeranosyan, the commander of the Police forces.
The solemn sitting drew to its close with viewing a film about the 60-year track-record of the General department of State Protection.
