A memorandum of understanding signed between the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces and Police of the Republic of Armenia

On December 13 Head of the Headquarters of Police of the Republic of Armenia, Police Major General Vardan Eghiazaryan hosted reception for Deputy Director of The Geneva centre for the Democratic control of Armed forces Philipp Fluri and the delagation of the OSCE office in Yerevan.
During the meeting the parties discussed prospects for further cooperation between the Armenian police and the Geneva centre for the Democratic control of Armed forces, in particular, in upholding the rule of law and observing human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The parties highlighted the need for civilian control over police activities.
The two-year collaboration between the Armenian Police and Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces was documented and a memorandum of understanding was signed beetween the parties.               
Vardan Ghazaryan signed the memorandum on behalf of Police of the Republic of Armenia  and Philipp Fluri signed it on behalf of Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
The memorandum envisages cooperation in increasing the effeciency of the legislative procedure in the sphere of Armenian police activities, including elaboration of draft legislative acts, development of analytical and research capabilities of Police of the Republic of Armenia, activating and sustaining community involvement in policing, as well as elaboration and implementation of relevant  effective procedures. 
The OSCE office in Yerevan is expected to support in carrying out the works.
During the meeting the parties also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
