On February 19 Head of Police of the Republic of Armenia Lieutenant General Vladimir Gasparyan held a working conference at Ararat provincial Department.
Providing an overview of the main requirements of police reforms at the current stage, the Police Chief noted that the principles proposed by the Police Leadership are common to all the regions: elimination of phenomena which are incompatible with police service, intensification of preventive measures, effective crime detection, active and immediate interaction with citizens, public confidence building and improvement of relations between the police and the public.
The Police chief drew the attention of the conference members to the main problems police officers deal with while carrying out works with juveniles. Vladimir Gasparyan noted that today the mentioned sphere of law enforcement activities covers a wide range of measures, namely, works with adolescents from problem families, young people studying at educational institutions, draftees and postmilitary-age young men.
Taking into account regional peculiarities, the Police chief instructed the local officers to forge closer ties with local peasants, to be compassionate towards them, share their concerns and help them to tackle the problems they confront.
By the end of the conference the police chief gave specific instructions to senior officers of Ararat Marz Department for increasing the efficiency of law enforcement activities and strengthening the rule of law and discipline in the territorial police divisions.
Later the Police Chief met with the administration and community leaders of Ararat province. During the meeting Vladimir Gasparyan set forth the purpose of his visit, presented the future action plan and spoke about the main problems of the cooperation between the local self-government bodies and law enforcers.
